Holed Up in a Castle on the Indian Ocean
Well, where to begin. Ushahidi, the wonderful open source mobile platform, held their 2012 Pirates and Ninjas Summit in Lamu, Kenya in a castle by the sea. We sure were grateful to be there to facilitate.
Serious work was balanced by serious play, including full-contact Marco Polo. We enjoyed the fine cuisine of Ali Samosa in Lamu town, and spent the last night perfecting our dance moves for the event theme song. And we all laptop-squatted before and after the event at the amazing iHub.
We are already looking forward to next year :^)
As some express optimism and positive spin about that merger, I feel the need to speak up on behalf of the organizations and activists we serve. Please pardon me if I sound a tad strident, these thoughts have been years in the making.
Join us for a one day training event for Bay Area nonprofits and social justice organizations, hosted at the Google offices in Mountain View, California!
This is a great opportunity to work with three different organizations—Community Technology Network, Aspiration, and Google—offering support to empower you with tech skills so you can magnify your social justice passions and priorities. View the training materials here.
During this 1 day event, nonprofit staff will have the opportunity to:
- better understand how to assess and engage their online audiences
- coordinate various online channels including web, email and social media
- work with volunteers from Google
Aspiration's Annual NPTechie Love Fest took place right on schedule this year, 16-18 November at Preservation Park in Oakland.
- Check out the Agenda and session notes from the event!
- Let us know if you want to propose or request a session for the 2012 Dev Summit! There is always plenty of room for more!
A big love bomb of thanks to all who joined us for this and past Dev Summit's, as well as all of you who will join in the fun at next year's high-spirited, fully-interactive festival of folks who are passionate about developing software tools to support the work of social change organizations and community activists.
