Thank you to everyone who joined us for the CA Tech Fest in Richmond, California on September 25-26. The CA Tech Fest was a two-day gathering of over 100 folks from California and abroad who are passionate about leveraging technology and creative media for social justice.

The event was a safe and collaborative space to engage in critical dialogue and build genuine connections. Through collaborative sessions and workshops, we strived to build capacity to advance social change efforts across the state.

What was on the agenda?

Agenda building in LA

To make sure the topics reflected the needs, passions, and talents of the people in the room, the agenda topics were emergent, based on input from participants before and during the event. We emphasized collaboration, participation, and the sharing of experiences and ideas.

We anticipated session topics ranging from social media strategy, database management, anti-surveillance, video and graphics, and even self-care for organizers.

This event would not have been possible without the California Consumer Protection Foundation, who generously supported the foundation of the California Nonprofit Tech Festivals and Aspiration's nonprofit technology capacity building efforts in the Central Valley. We've also been humbled by all of our past festival partners throughout California.

Gunner and the Aspiration team have been an incredible inspiration and resource for us at OpenNews. From facilitating at events like MozFest, we learned about inclusive, engaging, collaborative event design that has shaped our own event SRCCON and influenced the community we serve in journalism.
