Consumer Reports recently announced the release of The Digital Standard, a privacy and security framework designed to safeguard consumers. Aspiration worked with Consumer Reports, Disconnect, Ranking Digital Rights, and The Cyber Independent Testing Lab to help develop the new guidelines for evaluating products, apps, and services.
Aspiration designed and facilitated the live meeting processes by which the partners combined and integrated their respective privacy and security models into a unified standard.
Additional background is available at Consumer Reports online, and in blog posts from Disconnect and Ranking Digital Rights, as well as coverage on Boing Boing.
The Digital Standard is open, under a Creative Commons license--you are encouraged to contribute to the Digital Standard on GitHub.
