Event Expectations

These expectations are adopted, with grateful attribution, from EFF’s Event Expectations.

Aspiration events, online meetings, and learning sessions are intended to be inclusive and welcoming for everyone. In particular, we do not tolerate harassment of participants, whether attendees, guests or Aspiration staff, in any form. Participants violating these rules may be expelled from the event, and may be expelled from all future Aspiration events, at the discretion of Aspiration.

Harassment includes but is not limited to disparaging verbal comments related to gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, or other similar characteristics; deliberate intimidation; stalking; sustained disruption of talks or other events; harassing photography or recording; inappropriate physical contact; and unwelcome sexual attention.

Participants asked to stop any harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. Participants who believe that they have been improperly accused will be given an opportunity to present their side of the story, usually before a decision on a further course of action, except in the case of egregious harassment. Aspiration will endeavor to be fair in deciding a further course of action, but reserves the discretion to expel individuals from our events regardless of any disputed facts.

If a participant engages in harassing behavior, Aspiration may take any action they deem appropriate, including warning the offender or expulsion from the event with no refund or banning the participant from any future Aspiration events.

If you are being harassed, notice that someone else is being harassed, or have any other concerns, please contact a staff member of Aspiration or the Community Safety team immediately.

On-site, Aspiration will have individuals specifically tasked to respond to any complaints of harassment. They will be identified at the beginning of every event and generally will wear a badge or shirt to assist participants in identifying them.

If you need immediate help of any kind, please find us on-site. For less urgent matters, or advance matters, we can be reached via email at safetyteam@aspirationtech.org.
