  • Introducing the AI Openness & Equity Policy Leadership Cohort

In this cohort launched in partnership with Mozilla, we've assembled a diverse mix of practitioners, researchers, and academics to explore what openness and equity can and should mean in AI, and how they can be levers for greater accountability, inclusion, and public interest development across Europe and beyond.

  • Voices from the Policy Community: Challenges in the Policy Field(s)

Since launching the Policy Leadership Initiative, we have interviewed over 100 individuals in the policy field. We wanted to hear what practitioners had to say about leadership, policy work, power-sharing, and a range of other topics. In this new blog series, we will share some highlights from these interviews, which fundamentally shaped the Policy Leadership Initiative.

  • The Leadership We Want to Foster

  • Moderators of the World Unite

Social media as we know it depends on the work of tens of thousands of content moderators worldwide. Without this hidden army of key safety workers, there is no Facebook, no TikTok, no YouTube and no Google. They keep the internet safe for all of us. Despite their essential role, which comes at a terrible cost to their mental health, they remain underpaid and outsourced. That’s why we are proud to be co-hosting a landmark content moderator summit in Berlin.

  • Collective longing for what science could be but isn’t…yet

If we are to make a change in the world with science as a tool for good, we must listen to the stories of why people come to science, how they value and use science in their lives, and how science helps and hinders societal progress. We must center diverse articulations of what it will look like to reach this goal and will lead us to a place, a people, and a plan to satisfy our collective longing for what science could be but isn’t…yet.

  • Data Leadership through Peer Learning

As civil society moves to increasingly data-centric and data-driven modes of doing work and making change, we face new challenges in stewarding and governing the assets that underlie and power those efforts. New types of leaders are emerging to meet these challenges, but few resources are available to inform governance, stewardship and long-term responsible leadership in data-centric missions and ventures. Aspiration, Digital Public, and Fenris are excited to announce the Data Leadership Cohort (DLC), an opportunity for these new leaders to meet, learn, and build connections with each other.

  • Power Dynamics and Inclusion in Virtual Meetings

Raise your hand if you have ever been in a virtual meeting where: One or two people do all the talking; You don't feel safe or empowered to share your thoughts, ideas, or questions; You don't feel the value of what you or others have to contribute is acknowledged by everyone in the meeting, especially the hosts...Sound familiar?

We invite you to join us on a journey of learning toward addressing these dynamics
  • Forging Careers in Human Rights Technology - Survey

Forging Careers in Human Rights Technology

Having worked with and in support of information security practitioners in the human rights sector for over a decade, we have found that collaboration and cooperation are the backbone of this community of practice. Yet, many challenges and gaps hinder their practice and impact the contributions they are able to provide. We completed a survey to snapshot some of the key strengths and shortcomings of the infrastructure within which they operate today.

SF Nonprofit Technology Center

For 15 years, our "home base" in the San Francisco Mission District provided collaborative office and meeting space for nonprofits and trainers working with technology for social change in the Bay Area. The Tech Center closed permanently during the pandemic but many warm and collaborative memories remain.

So many good folks + topics at the summit!! I love the community you have fostered x1B. I came out so energized. Met new folks who I now love, and reconnected with old folks who I hadn't seen in *years*. w00t w00t and triple w00t!
