As the Policy Leadership Initiative continues to evolve, we've been listening closely to the needs of policy practitioners at all stages of their journeys. From acquiring and refining essential policy skills to navigating career transitions, there is a strong desire from practitioners to connect with and learn from peers to acquire and refine essential policy skills, support each other in what are often shared challenges, collectively strategise, and successfully navigate their career journeys.
This was absolutely one of the main themes of our second Digital Policy Leadership Summit, convened in early March 2024. The virtual skill-share will provide an opportunity to continue these valuable conversations and connections from the Summit, and forge new connections and bonds.
The event will invite practitioners to come together and exchange knowledge on various skills, practices, and issues relating to policy leadership. Topics offered at recent skillshares have included:
-
How to break into the tech-policy ecosystem
-
Exploring disruptive tactics in policy work
-
Confidently talking to journalists and the media
-
Effectively incorporating intersectional perspectives into digital policy work, from labour to Roma rights, to climate justice.
-
Effectively navigating the Brussels legislative maze
-
Navigating career transitions
-
Involving techies and hackers in your policy work
-
Raising the resources to do the work
-
Understanding and engaging on current and upcoming EU legislation including the DSA, DMA and AI Act
Who should attend?
We welcome participants from diverse backgrounds who are eager to learn and share their expertise in policy leadership-related topics. Whether you are new to digital policy, part of a frontline community impacted by policy decisions, active in an adjacent field and want to learn more about digital policy, or a seasoned practitioner looking to support emerging leaders, we invite you to let us know if you want to participate!
Please note that while we strive to include as many participants as possible, we may not be able to accommodate all requests to participate. We will prioritise both early-career practitioners as well as those volunteering to share their knowledge and experience.
You can request to participate by sending an email to policyleadership@aspirationtech.org. Please include the following information:
-
Policy work you are currently focused on, or interested in getting involved in;
-
What is your ideal outcome and/or what specific knowledge would you like to share or acquire in joining the virtual skill-share?
We hope to connect with you at the virtual skill-share! Stay tuned for further updates.
